How to remove pilling from swimsuits

Top Tips for Swimwear Care

Swimsuits are an essential part of every beach or pool day, but there’s one problem many of us face after a few wears: pilling. It’s a common issue caused by friction from rough surfaces such as rocks and non-slip areas at public pools. Pilling on swimwear can make your favourite swimsuit look worn and less appealing. The good news is, there are several effective ways to remove pilling from swimsuits and, even better, prevent it from happening in the first place!

How to Remove Pilling from Swimwear

  1. Use a Fabric Shaver: Gently glide a fabric shaver over the pilled areas to remove the fuzz.
  2. Try a Razor: If you don’t have a fabric shaver, a disposable razor can do the trick. Use it gently, as you would with your skin, to shave off the pilling. Be careful not to press too hard to avoid damaging the fabric.
  3. Use a Lint Roller: Quickly remove remaining pills with a lint roller for a smooth finish.

Top Tips to Prevent Pilling

  1. Sit on a Towel or Mat: Avoid sitting on rough surfaces to reduce friction that causes pilling.
  2. Tie a sarong or piece of fabric around your waist to act as a barrier between your swimsuit and any surface.
  3. Proper Washing Routine: Take care of your swimsuit by following a good swimwear care routine: wash, rinse, and dry it properly.

Swimwear Care Tips

To prevent pilling, always sit on soft surfaces, wash your suit carefully, and alternate between swimsuits for extended longevity. While you can remove pilling, it may never return to its original state, so taking care of your swimsuit is key.
