Why is staying sun safe a necessity?
Being outside is fun and healthy; however, it may become a problem if sun safety is not applied properly. Sun protection is a necessity, as it helps prevent some skin cancers, getting sunburnt and can cause less wrinkles and aging skin.
The Five S’s of Sun Safety
- Slip on sun-protective clothing
The best protection against the sun rays is UV protective clothing. When in water, the best sun-protective clothing is +50 UPF swimwear which gives you up to 98% sun protection.
- Slop on SPF 30+ sunscreen
Always use a sun protection factor sunscreen 30 or above for the best protection from UV rays. Don’t forget to wait 20 minutes before going outdoors.
- Slap on a hat
A wide brimmed or legionnaires hat is preferred in order to shade and protect more features.
- Slide on some UV protective sunglasses
In order to protect the eyes from harmful solar UV radiation, a pair of UV protective sunglasses are always the best option.
- Seek shade
Whenever possible, seek shade as it provides a barrier between the sun and skin.
Always Make sure you stay sun safe!

“My favorite way to stay sun safe is to wear UV protective swimwear. This means I don’t have to keep rubbing and re-rubbing sun lotion into my skin. I can enjoy a whole day at the beach without turning into a lobster.”
