Meet Kerri, a Queenslander, Strong Woman and Swimwear Role Model

“I’m a Queensland girl at heart.”
I was born in Queensland, moved to South Australia and then to Victoria, but eventually made my way back to QLD to help care for my mum when she was really sick. Family means everything to me, and being there when she needed me most was something I’ll never regret.

“My family and lifting heavy weights bring me joy.”
My kids and my husband are the greatest thing I’ve ever done in life, they bring me so much joy. Outside of family I love challenging myself. Powerlifting is one of my biggest passions. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of lifting heavy weights and proving to myself what my body is capable of.

“If you tell me I can’t, I’ll show you I can.”
That’s the motto I live by. I’ve always been plus size and for a long time I struggled with self-consciousness. Years ago a doctor told me that if I didn’t start exercising I’d end up in a wheelchair because of a degenerative disease. So I went to the gym, lost fat, gained muscle and never looked back. Today I know that every body is a swimsuit body and just because you’re bigger doesn’t mean you’re unhealthy.

“Life is too short to worry about what others think.”
When OceanRoad Swimwear asked me to model I was nervous and doubted myself, but with the support of my husband I said yes. Being part of a photoshoot that celebrated women of all ages, shapes and sizes felt amazing and freeing. I want other women to know that if I can do it, anyone can. Don’t let anyone tell you not to wear that swimsuit, if you feel good in it then that’s all that matters.
